Sumac

Sumac spice is the ground fruit of a small bush that grows in the Mediterranean and parts of the Middle East. Sumac is used in Middle Eastern cuisine to add a lemony taste to salads or meat. In Arab cuisine, it is used as a garnish on hummus and is added to salads in the Syria and Lebanon. In Iranian (Persian and Kurdish) cuisine, Sumac is added to rice or kebab. In Jordanian and Turkish cuisine, it is added to kebabs. Sumac is a key ingredient in Zahtar seasoning.
